【Tour Report】A Beginner’s Walking Guide Tour of Morioka – Cozy Cafés☕

Both days of this walking tour were fully booked—thank you so much! 🙇

It really shows just how many people in Morioka love cafés or are interested in café culture ☕

Here’s a little glimpse of what the day was like.

After departing from BASE STATION, we didn’t head straight toward the castle—instead, we first made our way to “Cinema Street.”

It turns out this area is actually connected to Morioka’s café culture…?

As we introduced the town along the way, we headed toward Sakurayama.

Our first stop was TEA HOUSE Liebe, a long-established traditional café that has been in operation since 1971.

Drawn in by its cozy interior, conversations about cafés quickly came alive.

One of its charms is its convenient hours—open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturdays—and they also offer a morning menu.

With a wide selection of teas and tableware, many participants were already saying, “I want to come back!”

As we continued our walk through Morioka Castle Ruins Park and the Konyamachi area, we made our way to the next café.

On the 20th, Mt. Iwate was clearly visible, adding to the experience.

Along the way, it was especially memorable to hear participants share their own stories, saying things like, “This place used to be…”

On the 14th, we visited Shamon, a café in Sakanacho that has been renovated from a traditional storehouse.

Their hayashi rice is delicious! They also offer a wide variety of parfaits, and the quiet, tucked-away atmosphere inside the kura makes it a highly recommended spot.

On the 20th, we visited Shun Tea Room.

As soon as we entered, jars of marmalade caught everyone’s eye, and we heard people saying, “I want to try that!”

Even within its open space, the way seating is divided creates a comfortable, semi-private atmosphere, allowing us to relax and enjoy our time.

On the way back, everyone naturally slowed their pace, as if embracing the calm atmosphere.

Especially during this busy season, it was the kind of walking tour that lets you pause, relax, and take a breath.

Comments from participants:

  • “The amount of information was just right, and there was enough space for participants to interact with each other, which made it very comfortable.”
  • “In such pleasant weather, it was great to learn things you normally wouldn’t, while actually seeing them in person. The other participants were also friendly, and it was a very enjoyable experience.”
  • “There were so many new discoveries—I think I’m going to get hooked on walking tours!”
